pisco earthquake, peru 2007
On August 15, 2007 a magnitude 8.0 earthquake hit the central coast of Peru. The earthquake left 519 people dead and did extensive damage to structures in the cities of Pisco, Ica, Chincha Alta and San Vincente de Canete. A team comprising members from CC Montebello, CC La Habra, CC Downey, CC Costa Mesa, CC Sarasota and others responded to our CC in Lima Peru. From there various teams made their way to some of these effected areas. We were collectively able to ship a container with over 10 tons of food as well as water, medical supplies and tents to Lima, where there were distributed by CC Lima and our teams responding from the states. A Calvary Chapel, Capilla Cristiana de San Andres, Pisco, was officially planted there in 2008 and continues the work that was begun by our relief teams.
