From Derek Forbes: Assistant Pastor Calvary Chapel Okinawa
Tim, We are doing well after the typhoon. The west side of the island was hit the hardest. Cars blowing across parking lots, 14 meter waves, flooding and more. Overall, we are all good. Thank you for your prayers. Hope you were able to find Pastor Rick. In His service, Derek Typhoon Neoguri has passed approx. 189 miles southwest of the island of Okinawa and been downgraded to a Cat 3. I was contacted by Derek Forbes who is an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Okinawa. He thanked everyone for their prayers and, at the time, advised that they were making preparations for the storm. |
Thanks again to all of you for your prayers. Lord Bless Tim Wylie Parakletos International Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa A Super Typhoon is bearing down on the island of Okinawa and is currently expected to hit the island on Tuesday (Okinawa time, which would be one day ahead of us). The storm is expected to be a Cat 5 with sustained winds of 160 mph and gusts to over 190 mph. If it passes just west of the island, as currents models have it, it could drive a 30 foot storm surge.
The island is home to almost 1.4 million people with a number of US military bases. There is also a Calvary Chapel, Calvary Chapel Okinawa, on the island. Please be in prayer for our church the, our military personnel and all the inhabitants of this island. Tim Wylie Parakletos International Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa A favorable jet stream is pushing Hurricane Arthur northeast at approx. 23 mph. Although it had reached a category 2 status and briefly came ashore in North Carolina, the storm remained mostly offshore. Hatteras Island, one of the barrier islands was under mandatory evacuation orders. Please pray for pastor Rutledge and his church Hatteras Island Christian Fellowship.
Pastor Gerry's wife, Peggy is back in Samar and joining teams as they minister in the schools, jails, and hospitals, along with the construction projects. If you or your church are interested in sending a team please contact U-Turn for Christ (Their contact information is located on the "Teams" page).
