Haiti earthquake 2010

The Haiti earthquake occurred on January 12, 2010 and registered a magnitude 7.0 on the Richter Scale.  It was the greatest natural disaster in the history of this island nation. It was estimated that three million people were affected, with an estimated 100,000 to 300,000 dead and 250,000 residences along with 30,000 commercial buildings destroyed.

While our Churches in Haiti, CC Port Au Prince and CC Caneille, were working locally with the needs of their communities, a small team from CC Old Bridge made its’ way into Haiti from the Dominican Republic.  One team was directed to Jacmel, Haiti and led the way for future teams from CC Costa Mesa and CC Fort Lauderdale.  Out of this partnership was formed the Calvary Chapel Haiti Initiative.  After renting a couple of houses and leasing a 5 acre parcel of property, teams began responding to Haiti.  In the first year we had over a thousand volunteers from over fifty different ministries respond. Our teams assisted in medical clinics, debris removal, feeding, construction, and every possible type of counsel and ministry.  As a result of this a couple churches were planted in the Jacmel region along with another work in Port Au Prince by Cross to Light Ministries.

Today, teams are still encouraged to respond and assist in the work that was begun as a result of this incredible disaster.  For information on how your church can get involved please check the links below:
